5 major new construction sites in Allen, Texas

The other day I was out around town in Allen & couldn't help but notice all the cranes. I decided to follow the cranes ... here's what I found: 5 new construction sites:

Allen High School's new performing arts center

"The $23.3 million performing arts center was funded through a May 2009 bond package that also provided for the new stadium,
which includes a weight room and indoor golf practice area."
"The school also will have a new Steinway grand piano, Model D ($99,000 grand piano), in the performing arts center that opens this fall."
quotes by SAM HODGES / The Dallas Morning News, samhodges@dallasnews.com,  published 12/14/10.

TopGolf Allen

"The new 65,000-square-foot TopGolf Allen facility will boast a triple-decker tee line featuring 94 hitting bays. 5,000 square feet of private event space, a rooftop lounge terrace and a full service bar and restaurant. TopGolf Allen also will feature next-generation touchscreen game monitors and LCD TVs in each hitting bay." quotes by DONNIE WYAR, dwyar@neighborsgo.com,, published Friday, Oct. 15, 2010.

Allen High School football stadium

"Allen High School in Texas nears completion of new $60 million football stadium. The state-of-the-art behemoth will boast an 18,000-seat horseshoe seating area with an upper deck, a video scoreboard, a two-tier press box, concession stands as well as an arts auditorium, training room and indoor practice arena for the golf team."quotes by PHILIP CAULFIELD, DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER, published Sunday, May 01, 2011.

Hydrous at Allen Station

"Hydrous at Allen Station, a new wakeboarding water park, is generating excitement across north Texas. Wakeboarding is a cable-operated sport where a participant rides a wakeboard over the surface of water. People familiar with the sport describe it as a combination of water skiing, snow boarding and surfing. The park is expected to open this summer, possibly as early as June, according to City Manager Peter Vargas." quotes by Desiree Hill, Allen City Limits, published Tuesday, May 17, 2011

Golf Range comes to Allen!

If you've driven in any area by The Village or Cabela's, you've probably noticed the tall netting for this driving range. Located just across Andrews Pkwy. from Cabela's, TopGolf is not just a driving range. They have managed to make several games designed to improve accuracy and enhance driving skills for golfers.

Grand opening is scheduled for late spring of this year. We took some pictures of the progress and here's a sneek peek of what to expect. Click here for a brief tour on their website!

TopGolf offers a variety of driving games, 2 bars, restaurant, rooftop terrace, and other ammenities that gives it the feel of a country club. The best part is they don't charge country club fees. Games range from $3 to $6 depending on the time of day. They also have very reasonable monthly memberships and cater to parties.

heavy sleet and snow back in the forecast for Allen, Texas

By Yahoo! Local yahoo! Local – Tue Feb 8, 7:25 am ET

Jason Sickles, Yahoo! Dallas Editor
Raise your hand if you've heard this one before...

From the National Weather Service:
"The National Weather Service in Fort Worth has issued a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow and sleet ... which is in effect from midnight tonight to 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Precipitation will begin as rain in northwest parts of North Texas early Wednesday morning ... continuing to overspread North Texas. As temperatures fall to below freezing Wednesday morning ... the precipitation will transition to a freezing rain and sleet mixture before changing to all snow by early afternoon.

Total sleet and snow accumulations are expected to range from one to three inches. In addition ... a few hundredths of an inch of freezing rain could coat roads and exposed objects before the precipitation transitions to sleet and snow by mid morning.

All wintry precipitation is expected to taper off during the afternoon. Snow flurries may persist into the evening hours in eastern counties. A winter storm warning means significant amounts of snow ... sleet ... and ice are expected or occurring. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible."

And, yes, it'll be bitterly cold again. The weather service says wind chills will reach near zero in some parts of North Texas from Wednesday evening until sunrise on Thursday.

The good news? The Weather Channel's forecast has the area warming to 36 degrees on Thursday, 47 on Friday and sunny and 50s for the weekend.

Christmas Lights in Downtown Allen

For the past 15 years I've enjoyed the Christmas spirit in Allen thanks to a few businesses that take the time to light up the night with a beautiful display of lights. I thought I'd pay them some tribute this year. The Salon and Spa at Eaton Court & Larry Fleming Photography are located just east of US 75 on the north side of the street
